I was recently tagged by Mairead Case in the on-going and ever expanding self-interview series The Next Big Thing. You can follow the chain backwards (and read about Mairead’s awesomeness) by going here. Moving forward, I’ve tagged Anne Elizabeth Moore, Robin Hustle, and Adrienne Harris. What is the working title of your book? Death of an Animatronic Band Where did the idea come from for the book? I’ve been playing around with the idea of hipster shamanism for a long time — tracing a kind of psychic lineage from Joseph Beuys to … Read more

In the last couple of weeks, Lady Rollins has played a few shows. We did our first long-form performance of around two hours at Carrie Secrist Gallery. You can see those images above (the video might be a while, as I’m still working out how to get footage from an ancient hand held camera onto my computer — what I believe requires a trip to SAIC to use a machine that transfers tape to digital). Stevie and Carmen (who with Secrist co-curated the Void show that was closing the day … Read more

Last week Lady Rollins had another performance at The Beauty Bar, part of Two With Water’s reading series. In the end Pete and I were the only ones who participated, since, as Peter put it “Devin was sidelined with a freak injury” (he sprained his foot) and Jess was unable to use the turntables. Still things worked out OK and hopefully the following documentation will whet our appetite for this Saturday’s performance. It should be great! Devin’s been reading a ton of Robert Ashley stuff, and so I’m excited to … Read more

This Saturday, Lady Rollins is performing a marathon piece at Carrie Secrist Gallery. It’s pretty exciting for us, as we are changing up our approach. Devin is putting together a script with directives, I’m hoping to screen a two-channel video loop, Jess is going to play records and Peter has a new synth thinga-ma-bob. We are meeting on Friday to discuss an in-between choreography, and I am really excited to see how it’s going to turn out. Here’s the press release! Lady Rollins Losing the Gloves :: Saturday, March 31, 2012, … Read more

OK, so here is the proper documentation from our event at The Whistler. I’m pretty excited about how this video turned out, for one thing, I finally learned how to add text which for some reason has been a mystery for the last five years. (shout out to Irina who gave me some mad tips!)

Last Sunday Lady Rollins participated in Jason Behrends’ Orange Alert Reading Series. Ben Tanzer read an excerpt about a girl who followed him home from school and camped out on his lawn and the Dirty Poet read poems about the trials and tribulations of a hospital emergency room. He offered two pieces of advice, 1) when visiting someone in a hospital dress in a suit so that that hospital employees treat you like an adult/important person and 2) if you need to buy time with a crazy person, … Read more
